Hooded Crow hat-trick

26th April 2015 – bright and sunny NW3/4
Offshore
Sandwich Tern continue to dominate sightings early morning with 600 birds logged along with small numbers of Red-throated Diver, Gannet, Common Scoter, Razorbill and Guillemot.
Grounded Migrants
Despite a cold start and a stiff northwest breeze there were a few grounded birds in evidence. At least 6 Grasshopper Warbler were in breeding habitat where the number of Lesser Whitethroat, Whitethroat and Sedge Warbler continue to increase slowly. Obvious migrants included 24 Wheatear, 5 Willow Warbler, 5 Blackcap, 2 Redstart and a White Wagtail.
Diurnal Migration
Swallow and Sand Martin continue to just trickle through.
Wildfowl and Waders
Waders included 23 Whimbrel and a Black-tailed Godwit.
Miscellaneous
The long-staying Hooded Crow was joined by 2 additional birds and a Merlin was recorded.
