Early signs of autumn

Offshore
Morning observations on the falling tide (1030-1230) produced a varied selection of birds with 455 Manx Shearwater, 61 Gannet, 36 Guillemot, 31 Sandwich Tern, 7 Common Scoter, 3 Arctic Tern, 2 Common Tern, 2 Kittiwake, 2 Razorbill, 2 Great Skua and single Arctic Skua and Little Tern logged.
Grounded Migrants
The first Wheatear of the autumn appeared.
Diurnal Migration
A total of 7 Swift headed south.
Wildfowl and Waders
An early returning drake Wigeon was logged and the 2 Pink-footed Geese remain. Waders included 1750 Oystercatcher, 930 Knot and 260 Bar-tailed Godwit.
