Whimbrel passage begins

18th April 2007 - bright and sunny N 1/2 then W 3/4
Offshore
Calm seas produced just a light northerly early morning (0715-0815) movement highlighted by 12 Manx Shearwater. Other totals included 8 Red-throated Diver, 65 Common Scoter, 32 Sandwich Tern and 40 Razorbill.
Grounded Migrants
Clear skies again produced few birds, sightings were limited to 12 Wheatear, 3 Willow Warbler and a Chiffchaff. The Lesser Whitethroat was again singing from hedgerows at Biggar.
Diurnal Migration
A Merlin flew in off the sea and a small hirundine movement comprised 22 Swallow and 10 Sand Martin.
Wildfowl and Waders
The first 4 Whimbrel of the year appeared and a single Greenshank still lingered along with 2 Wigeon and a drake Pintail.
Moths
Another Small Quaker appeared in the light trap and other records included Common Quaker, Red Chestnut, Hebrew Character and Chamomile Shark.
