Heavy Common Scoter passage and a scattering of migrants

Offshore
The first hour after dawn (0630-0730) revealed a heavy northbound passage of Common Scoter with 1720 birds noted. Other sightings included day totals of 38 Red-throated Diver, 37 Gannet, 20 Razorbill and 230 Sandwich Tern.
Grounded Migrants
Overcast conditions early morning produced the first 2 Blackcap of the year along with 12Willow Warbler, 8 Wheatear, 7 White Wagtail, 5 Pied Wagtail and 5 Goldcrest and a Fieldfare, before birds dispersed as the weather cleared.
Diurnal Migration
No coordinated count, however, 2 Merlin were logged and the first few Swallows of the year and 2 Sand Martin flew through.
Wildfowl and Waders
The highlights were 3 Greenshank, 2 Black-tailed Godwit and 3 Gadwall.
